Quang Xuong district is located in the Southeast of Thanh Hoa province. It borders Thanh Hoa city and Sam Son city to the North, Nghi Son town to the South, East Sea to the East, Nong Cong district, and Dong Son district to the West; has a natural area of 174.22 km² (17,422 ha), accounting for 1.56% of the total natural area of the province. Currently, the whole district has 25 communes and 01 town (Tan Phong township) with 203,020 people, accounting for 5.5% of the province's population. Quang Xuong has a large population with a golden age, over 120,700 people of working age, with high educational and professional qualifications compared to the general level of the province. 

Quang Xuong has a convenient traffic network. In the district, there are National Highway 1A, National Highway 45, Provincial Road 504, Provincial Road 511, and new coastal roads connecting the dynamic economic zones of the district with other provinces, urban areas, major financial centers, major transport hubs of the region such as Thanh Hoa city, Sam Son city, Nghi Son town - Nghi Son economic zone, Lam Son Sao Vang industrial zone, and The international seaport Tho Xuan airport, Nghi Son International General Sea Port,... Specifically, the coastal route passing through Quang Xuong district has been invested and completed so as to create favorable conditions for exploitation and promote the potential and advantages of the coastal area, with gentle, fine sand and clear blue water, along with many beautiful beaches in Quang Hai, Quang Luu, Quang Thai, Tien Trang communes and Quang Nham cape, Lach Gep tidal region (Quang Trung commune, Quang Chinh).

As a land full of cultural and historical traditions, through many divisions, mergers, and administrative boundaries, the name Quang Xuong began to be used from the Quang Thuan dynasty (1469) until now. Before that, Quang Xuong district was known as Vinh Xuong district. After overcoming ups and downs, Quang Xuong retains many typical cultural beauties, from cultural and spiritual heritages such as folk songs, folk dances, traditional festivals, and historical and cultural relics, recognized at the national and provincial level. In the district, there are 38 ranked relics, in which 03 national monuments are: Gep Ferry Wharf (Quang Trung commune); Temple of tombstone Bui Sy Lam (Tan Phong township); Tomb and temple of Hoang Bui Hoan (Quang Trach commune). Inheriting and promoting the tradition of studiousness of the forebears, Quang Xuong district today is known for the movement to build "studying family," which has spread to many localities in the province. In addition, Quang Xuong also has many students participating in competitions and contests for excellent and gifted ones at the provincial level. Not only that, Quang Xuong is continuously ranked at the top of the province with many students who score 27 points or more in the entrance exams to universities and colleges.

In the 2016-2020 period, thanks to flexible, creative, drastic solutions; high determination in leadership, direction, administration, organization, and implementation of all levels of Party committees, authorities, mass organizations; the armed forces and the consensus of the people in the district, Quang Xuong has achieved encouraging socio-economic achievements: The average annual growth rate of production value is estimated at 15.5%; economic structure shifts in a positive direction; in 2020, the proportion of agriculture, forestry and fishery sectors accounted for 23%; industry - construction accounted for 39%; services accounted for 38%. Socio-cultural activities have progressed towards socialization and quality improvement. National defense, security, social order, and safety are ensured. The people's material and spiritual life is constantly being improved and enhanced. 

Originating from a purely agricultural district with a large agricultural land area, about 8,946 hectares, accounting for 51.3% of the district's natural land area, Quang Xuong has focused on restructuring directing; creating a breakthrough in large-scale commodity agricultural production; applying high technology and gradually forming a specialized crop growing site with high added value, increasing incomes for farmers, such as: Concentrated production of high-quality rice associated with large-scale processing and consumption of products in the communes of Quang Van, Quang Hoa, Quang Hop, Quang Ngoc, Quang Nhan, Quang Long, Quang Yen,...; Safe vegetable production areas with VIETGAP standards in the communes of Quang Luu, Quang Yen, Quang Hop, Tan Phong town,...making Quang Xuong become the first district of the province to be recognized as  new countryside standards according to the set of criteria issued together with the Prime Minister's Decision No. 558/QD-TTg dated April 5, 2016. 

Having clearly identified the advantages bordering big cities and the Nghi Son economic zone, for many years, the Party committees and authorities at all levels have paid great attention to planning, investing in construction and completing technical and infrastructure society, creating favorable conditions to attract investment, and promoting industrial and urban development. 

Currently, in the district, there are 03 industrial clusters established: Cong Truc (with an area of ​​50 ha), Tien Trang (38 ha), and Nham Thach (13.8 ha); planned industrial zones of Quang Binh, Quang Luu, Quang Loc (500 ha) and industrial clusters of Quang Yen (60 ha), Quang Ngoc (60 ha), Tan Phong town (58.5 ha); 100% of provincial roads, urban roads, district roads, and commune roads are invested in being plasticized and hardened; 100% of communes, urban centers, and residential areas have been invested in electricity and water supply systems; post and telecommunications infrastructure developed rapidly with 42 service points, promptly meeting the increasing needs of local people.

 At the same time, actively mobilize resources to actualize the general construction plannings of Tan Phong, Tien Trang, Nham Thach, Cong Truc and coastal urban areas from Quang Hai to Tien Trang,... continue to prioritize budget capital to invest in completing the transport system, connecting with the main transport routes of the province such as: Thanh Nien route extending to National Highway 45; the road from National Highway 1A to the coastal road, Quang Binh - Quang Thai road; the road from National Highway 1A to Tien Trang marine ecotourism area; the road from National Highway 1A to Quang Thach and Quang Nham communes; Quang Dinh - Quang Duc - Quang Nhan, Quang Luu streets; Ring Road 3 to the west to Trung Chinh commune, Nong Cong district; road connecting Quang Nham urban area to Van Thien commune, Nong Cong district, …
